Matchume Zango (Mozambique) is regarded as one of the new masters of the timbila (a traditional wooden xylophone). His parents and grandparents are originally from Zavala, Inhambane province - the centre of Mozambique’s beautiful timbila and marimba traditions. Matchume has dedicated himself to Mozambican music and dance since the age of six and and plays traditional instruments such as timbila, mbira, xitende and djembe drums. An ambassador for Mozambican music and culture, he has lectured at the University of Cape Town and performed and taught in several African, Asian and European countries.
