Aida Zhakhanbek (Kazakhstan) is a dombra (a long-necked Kazakh string instrument) player, singer and improviser. She has been learning Kazakh folk and classical music since the age of six and is currently based in the UK. As well as dombra, Aida plays a host of other Kazakh folk instruments including jetigen (a seven stringed zither), sazsyrnai (an ancient clay wind instrument) and percussion. She is also a founding member of the ethno-folk duo 'Kos arna', with whom she has performed both in the UK and in Kazakhstan.
