Making Tracks, In-Deep: Shona Mbira

7:00 PMMaking Tracks 2020 Fellow Tendai Mavengeni (Zimbabwe) provides an introduction to the mbira family of instruments and what it means to be a female mbira player. Mbira are 'lamellophone' instruments, traditional to the Shona people of Zimbabwe. Each has a wooden board with staggered metal tongues, which are played by holding the instrument in the hands and plucking with the thumbs and fingers.
