Katerina Pavlakis

Katerina is an independent music producer, shopkeeper and real food advocate. Born in Athens and trained as an ethnomusicologist in Berlin, she quickly became entangled with backstage life as a member of the inaugural WOMEX team, and as a radio producer. In 2002 she set up KAPA Productions in London, dedicated to international touring and artist management, and became the founder and driving force behind the first nine years of Making Tracks, during which she organised thirty UK tours for bands and artists from around the globe. Through her work with Making Tracks and at SOAS - University of London, where she was events manager for several years, Katerina has made a major contribution to the provision of diverse music both within and outside London. She now lives on a smallholding in North Wales.

Nabihah Iqbal

Nabihah Iqbal

Nabihah is a musician, DJ and radio presenter. Her debut album, ‘Weighing of the Heart’, was released in 2017 to widespread critical acclaim. She is currently working on her second album at Somerset House Studios in London, where she’s an artist-in-residence. Aside from working on her own music, Nabihah has hosted a bi-weekly show on NTS Radio for the past seven years, exploring the musical traditions of different countries. She presented regular Saturday night shows on BBC Asian Network during 2018/19 as part of her BBC Radio Residency and has recently presented for the first time on BBC Radio 1. Nabihah's work also crosses over into other areas of the arts, where she's been commissioned to compose music for the Turner Prize and others.

Ben Mandelson

Ben Mandelson

Ben is Founding Director of WOMEX, as well as a leading independent record producer and multi-instrumentalist. Through his work with both WOMEX and GlobeStyle Records, Ben has played a seminal role in nurturing interest in diverse music from around the world. Alongside Roger Armstrong of GlobeStyle, he called the meeting of industry professionals that led to the foundation of 'world music' as a concept in the late 1980s. As a producer and musician, he's worked on hundreds of albums by artists from around the globe. In the eighties and early nineties, Ben was a core member of the eclectic and trailblazing 3 Mustaphas 3, and more recently teamed up with Justin Adams and Lu Edmonds to form the critically acclaimed, Les Triaboliques.

Lucy Durán

Lucy Durán

Lucy is Professor of Music at SOAS - University of London, as well as a radio broadcaster and a Grammy-nominated producer. She's spent four decades researching the music of the Mande peoples in Gambia, Senegal, Guinea and Mali. In addition to her published writings, Lucy has produced 23 albums of West African music including the debut solo albums by Toumani Diabaté (kora) and Bassekou Kouyaté (ngoni). Apart from her academic research and teaching, Durán has a long career as a radio broadcaster (she presented BBC Radio 3’s World Routes for many years). Lucy's recent film documentary, on the endangered tradition of girls’ hand-clapping songs in Mali was commissioned by Kronos Quartet and premiered at their festival in San Francisco in June, 2019.
